I have talked often about the power of blogging and how it can get you noticed. However, you have to be consistent in your blogging efforts. Post relevant content and give them what they need to deal with their questions and issues.
Enter into the conversations which are taking place on other blogs and social media locations. Give way more then you receive. And you will see results.
I started blogging in February of 2005 and I have always been amazed by the attention it has brought my way. I talked about some of it on my “Press Room” page.
Another way you get noticed is to have your worked linked to in a major national newspaper. And that is exactly what has happened to a blogger I have been following for some time.
In fact in less then one week, Susan Cartier Liebel and her great blog, Build a Solo Practice, LLC was featured on the Wall Street Journal - Law.
Yes, they are only links on the Wall Street Journal - Law. No, there was no interviews of Susan and no there was no huge quote. She has done many of those in other places.
Susan got this notice and exposure by doing those things we discuss a lot here.
I know some of you are wanting to know what having this type of exposure on the WSJ did for Susan. What was the results of being picked up in a major publication such as the Wall Street Journal? I knew from my own experience what the answer would be. But I wanted to know directly from someone who received the benefits.
To answer that question, I decided to ask Susan. I dropped her an email and asked her a couple of questions about what it has meant to her to be picked up by the Wall Street Journal and get those links.
Me: If you know, how did the WSJ come to give you this exposure?
Susan: Through my blogging at my site, Build a Solo Practice, LLC. Either they have my RSS or someone follows me on twitter where I feed my blog posts.
Me: How has the exposure you received from the WSJ affected your blog traffic this week?
Susan: On the day of the post and for several days after, it has spiked. So have the number of subscribers to my RSS.
Her traffic increased and it appears some of those visitors have become readers. Which is the goal of every blogger. Susan is just one more example of what blogging can do to get you noticed. Like some of us, her blog Build a Solo Practice, LLC is used to promote her and what she does in her business and that is “teaching lawyers how to create and grow their solo legal practices.” And it is exposure like the WSJ which brings potential clients to her blog which in turn, brings them to visit about hiring her for coaching and consulting.
No matter what you do. Whether it is a small business, home based business or professional service firm. Don’t discount the power and benefits of blogging and how it can have a huge impact on your own success.
I am always happy to discuss blogging and what it might do for your own business. Drop me an email at grant@g2webmedia.com and we can set a time to visit.
UPDATE: Remember when I said you get noticed in this post. And the fact Susan has made the WSJ a couple of times. Well it happened again. Her blog made the WSJ again. This is a sure sign that getting noticed can truly keep snowballing and the traffic will just keep rolling in because of it. Great job Susan. Keep on blogging!!
Grant,
Thanks for discussing my experience on your blog. The exposure has not been limited to WSJ. It has resulted in writing opportunities with greater exposure in my area and a host of other ‘recognitions.’
As you know, I’m a blogging convert.

And that is key. The initial benefits one gets from such exposure will just keep snow balling and bring in more and more opportunities. Which is another key reason why you are successful in your blogging efforts. You understand you have to continue to offer up quality, up to date, relevant content to your readers.
I wish more would model their blogging efforts after your example. The exchange of information with blogs would certainly continue to increase.
